Lincoln, NE –August 13, 2008– Vince Kramper of Dakota City was recently named Chairman of the Nebraska Environmental Trust Board during the Board Meeting held in Alma, Nebraska. A representative of the state’s first district, he is one of the only two original members of the organization established in 1992 to conserve, enhance and restore the natural environments of Nebraska and has been reappointed to the board by three of Nebraska’s Governors.
Mark Brohman, Executive Director for the Trust said, “The Trust has certainly gained from Mr. Kramper’s knowledge, experience and commitment. We look forward to his term as the new Chairman.”
Commenting on his recent appointment, Mr. Kramper said, “As a life-long farmer who has worked the land all my life, I appreciate the Board’s support and look forward to continuing to help preserve our lands for the future so that we can all enjoy what this great state of Nebraska has to offer.” The Board, he further explained, gives out $10 to 14 million dollars annually through grants that will provide for projects bringing public and private partners together collaboratively to implement high-quality, cost effective projects.
The Trust Board is comprised of 14 members representing the State of Nebraska and its citizens. Nine citizen representatives are appointed by the Governor to serve six year terms. Three representatives are chosen from each congressional district, serve without pay and represent a wide variety of natural resource interests. Five agency directors make up the remaining seats on the board to provide coordination with existing state resources. A staff of five handles the day-to-day activities of the organization.
The Nebraska Legislature created the Nebraska Environmental Trust in 1992. Using revenue from the Nebraska Lottery, the Trust has provided grants in excess of $126 million to over 1,135 projects across the state. Anyone – citizens, organizations, communities, farmers and businesses – can apply for projects involving habitat, surface and ground water, waste management, air quality and soil management in Nebraska. The Nebraska Environmental Trust works to preserve, protect and restore our natural resources for future generations.
