Dr. Richard Raymond is the director of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services Regulation & Licensure (R&L). As director of R&L, he oversees regulatory programs involving health care and environmental issues that impact public health. He was appointed to the R&L Director position by Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns on October 26, 2004. He will continue his duties as Nebraska's Chief Medical Officer, overseeing public health programs including disease prevention and health promotion, which he has held since his appointment in January 1999. Dr. Raymond is president of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) and has served on the association’s Preparedness Committee for three years. He is a life-long Nebraska resident who practiced medicine in rural Nebraska for 17 years, established and directed a community-based Family Practice Residency for Clarkson Medical Center for ten years, served as president of the Nebraska Medical Association, chaired Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns’ Blue Ribbon Panel on Infant Mortality, served on numerous state committees related to public health, and been a panelist at numerous national conferences. Dr. Raymond is Nebraska’s chief public health spokesperson and advocate.
