Barbara Batie – District III

Term expires March 2015

Trust Board chair, Barbara Batie, represents Congressional District 3 and has served on the board since May of 2003. She was reappointed to another six-year term in 2009. Batie and her husband, Don, operate a family farm northeast of Lexington, where they raise corn, soybeans, wheat and alfalfa. They also raise seven varieties of Indian corn for wholesale to local and regional farmer’s markets.

Batie is a correspondent for both the Lexington Clipper-Herald and the Tri-City Tribune at Cozad and writes a weekly column in the Trib. She has contributed to state, national and international publications, and is active in Nebraska Press Women where she serves on the board of directors. A past member of the Nebraska Environmental Quality Council, she has also been involved in the Dawson County Farm Bureau and Nebraska Farm Bureau Federation.

She is active in community activities including the Minuteman Fine Arts Association, serving as vice president, and the entire family is involved in Trinity Lutheran Church at Lexington.

Batie received a bachelor's degree in home economics journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1980. She and Don are the parents of two daughters, Juliana and Cicely. Juliana attends the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Cicely is a junior at Lexington High School.
